Davenen is a prayer partner matching service that connects members of the Jewish community for 40-day Tehillim cycles. We take your privacy seriously and want to be straightforward about what information we collect and how we use it.
Information We Collect
When you sign up for Davenen, we collect the following:
- Hebrew name (and parent's name) -- used to match you with a prayer partner and shared with your partner so they can daven for you
- Email address -- used for account access (magic link login), match notifications, and optional reminders
- Gender -- used to format your Hebrew name correctly in prayers
- Prayer category -- the type of Tehillim cycle you are joining (e.g., shidduch, refuah)
- Prayer logs -- when you mark that you have prayed, we record the date so you and your partner can track progress through the 40-day cycle
How We Use Your Information
Your information is used to:
- Match you with a prayer partner in your chosen category
- Share your Hebrew name with your matched partner (so they know who to daven for)
- Send you notifications about your match and prayer cycle
- Send optional reminders to help you stay on track
- Generate anonymous, aggregate statistics about the community (total partners, completed cycles, etc.)
What We Do Not Do
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third parties. Your email address is never shared with your prayer partner or anyone else outside of Davenen.
Email Communications
You may receive the following emails from Davenen:
- Match notifications -- when you are paired with a prayer partner
- Prayer reminders -- periodic reminders to say Tehillim (you can adjust the frequency or turn these off from your dashboard)
- Cycle updates -- notifications about your 40-day cycle progress
- Magic link login -- secure login links sent to your email
Push Notifications
If you use the Davenen app, you may opt in to push notifications for prayer reminders. Push notifications are entirely optional and can be disabled at any time through your device settings or the app.
Data Retention
We keep your account and prayer data for as long as your account is active. If you remove yourself from the list or request account deletion, your personal data will be deleted. Anonymous, aggregate statistics (such as total completed cycles) may be retained.
Deleting Your Account
You can remove yourself from Davenen at any time:
- From your dashboard, use the "Remove me from the list" option
- Or contact us through the contact form on our website and we will delete your account
Security
We use secure, passwordless magic link authentication to protect your account. All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections.
